Justice

My judicial philosophy will be first and foremost to uphold the Constitution and apply the law without fear or favor.  Every person who comes into Circuit Court deserves to be treated with justice and respect, whether they’re a plaintiff, a defendant, a crime victim, an attorney, a witness, a juror, or anyone else with business before the court.   Every case that comes to Circuit Court is important.  The cases handled in Circuit Court include civil actions involving more than $5,000, contested probate matters, land title disputes, capital offenses and felony criminal actions.

Integrity

I will strive to bring integrity and common sense values to the bench.  As an attorney, I represented a wide variety of clients from all walks of life.  As a legislator, I made it a priority to work on behalf of those who could not speak up for themselves, whether it be the protection of unborn children or adults who were victimized by abusive caretakers.  As Chief of Staff for the Auditor of Public Accounts, I’ve helped lead a team of professionals who are dedicated to protecting the taxpayers of the Commonwealth by promoting  transparency and accountability in government.

Experience

I’ve been a practicing attorney since 2007, beginning my career as a law clerk for Senior Judge Eugene E. Siler, Jr., with the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.  I then worked seven years with the firm of Carroll & Turner, PSC in Monticello before joining the Auditor of Public Accounts as General Counsel in 2016.  My background makes me uniquely qualified for the position of Circuit Judge with private practice experience in a wide range of civil and criminal cases, both at the trial court and appellate level, in addition to my experience working in state government as a legislator and in the executive branch.
